{"id":681,"date":"2022-07-24T03:46:35","date_gmt":"2022-07-24T03:46:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/itsintheballot.nz\/?p=681"},"modified":"2025-04-25T01:23:46","modified_gmt":"2025-04-25T01:23:46","slug":"the-its-in-the-ballot-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itsintheballot.nz\/index.php\/2022\/07\/24\/the-its-in-the-ballot-team\/","title":{"rendered":"About us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section admin_label=&#8221;section&#8221;]<br \/>\n\t\t\t[et_pb_row admin_label=&#8221;row&#8221;]<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t[et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2><b>Vision<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To become a \u2018community-led awareness and participation initiative\u2019 to increase voter interest and turnout in the general and council elections nationally.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By using broadcasting and web-based technologies to deliver in-studio, online and YouTube video \u201cMeet the Candidates\u201d we aim to inform voters with an entertaining event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Aims<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to allow candidates an equal opportunity to have their voices and ideas heard;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to help the public decide who to vote for;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to allow voters to mix and mingle with the electoral candidate hopefuls before and after the studio event;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to provide a central hub to promote all \u2018political election events\u2019 in all of Aotearoa New Zealand&#8217;s 72 Electorates.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>We are volunteers<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s in the Ballot is run by volunteers as a non-profit organisation called \u201cIt\u2019s in the Ballot Productions\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How it works<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each show is approximately 2 hours with an intermission.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>First half of show<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u2018It&#8217;s in the Ballot\u2019 host will introduce the local question host who joins us to present the questions in the boxes.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each candidate starts with an Opening Statement (1 minute) on why they are running. The candidates choose a numbered box and speaks to the question (1 minute). Candidates are given the same number of questions. Candidates are sent the question sheet at least 2 days before the show so they can prepare their responses.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In keeping with the style of \u2018It\u2019s in The Bag\u2019, each candidate will be given two Butt-in cards and one Defer card:<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>Butt-in card<\/b><\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any candidate can use this card for a question they want to answer. They must surrender their Butt-In card to the host as soon as that question has been read by the local question host. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The host will then ask the candidate with the Butt-in card to answer the question once the candidate who chose question has answered.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>Defer card<\/b><\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The candidate uses this card at their discretion to defer a question they have chosen from a box to another candidate of their choosing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Second half of show<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two Hard Hitting questions (1 minute) are answered by all candidates, followed by what candidates would choose as their First Private Members Bill (2 minutes) if elected. This is followed by a Closing Statement (1 minute) from each candidate on why we should vote for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>After show &#8216;meet and greet &#8216;with candidates, hosts, and production crew<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We encourage all attendees to stay after the show to talk to the candidates in person.
