  11. Taking into consideration all the information we have on the Kapiti Gateway will you vote to stop the project?  Yes or No 
  12. How do you propose to foster a more positive public impression of more active modes of transport such as cycling and walking?
  13. Saving the planet and saving the car can’t happen together.
    • What are you going to do in the term to actively reduce the number of private cars driving around Kapiti and being parked on our streets?
  14. Covid has shown us that we need a bit more space to move around and not catch contagious diseases. At the moment those in cars have all the space and pedestrians are squashed onto narrow pavements.
    • What will you do to make more space for those of us walking around the city? Such as one way streets, change on street parking to pavement etc?
  15. We know we need to pay now for essential upgrades that previous councils have avoided because of pushback from homeowners and fear of rates bills.
    • What will you do to stop pushing these expenses onto the younger generations and ensure that this city is maintained as it should be?
  16. Should social housing firstly be offered to those who are locals?
  17. Are you a current member of any political party and has your campaign received any support from a political party, including access to voter databases and volunteers?

  23. Last Year some councils decided to create Maori Wards for this local body elections, Kapiti Coast District Council didn’t.
    • What is your position on creating Maori Wards for the 2025 local body elections?
  24. There are concerns that the current Paraparaumu Airport precinct may be sold off.
    • Would you support the council purchasing the airport as Civil Defence Land?

Hard Hitting Questions

  1. The Kapiti Gateway is planned to be built on a tidal creek at the hightide mark and removing green space and dunes, a project with no community support.  A massive concrete car park will be built in fragile sand dunes in the park to accommodate more cars all at a cost of $7.7M.
    •  Can each candidate state if they have previously supported this project and if so how this aligns with their climate emergency and climate change stance?
  2. Most young people born on Kapiti Coast end up moving away.
    • What are you doing to ensure young people’s voices are heard and actioned to keep our district vibrant and growing?
  3. What is your position on all aspects of Three Waters – lifting safe, reliable drinking water. better environmental performance of wastewater and stormwater services. efficient, sustainable, resilient and accountable multi-regional water and sewage services?
